Autumn Styling

Autumn is a transformative time as trees shed their russet leaves heralding the icy winter months ahead and the summer sun recedes behind a pale grey sky.  It’s time to embrace the autumn hues and add texture to interiors creating cosy living spaces in the cooler months.

We’ve compiled our top tips for home-styling in Autumn:

INTRODUCE HANDCRAFTED ELEMENTS

Style a coffee table featuring hand crafted ceramics or a turned timber sculpture. Artisanal pieces are in-demand and it is the perfectly imperfect that will add character to your spaces.

PLAY WITH MUTED COLOUR PALETTES AND NATURAL LIGHT

Use sophisticated muted earthy tones and timeless neutrals. Sheer curtains and pure white walls help bounce the light around the room, keeping the look fresh and crisp.  Each colour evokes an emotion, such as blue which is known for its calming effect. The tone and shade of colour you use also plays a big part, for instance light shades versus deep, saturated hues. Darker, fuller colours are more intense, whereas neutrals are a softer way of bringing in colour.

 ADD METALLIC SURFACES

A bit of bling will make your interiors sing this autumn. Warm metallics like brass and gold pair beautifully with refined, muted, earthy tones, creating a warm sophisticated look.

 CREATE TEXTURAL CONTRAST

Texture will add warmth and indoor plants will inject an organic feel into a space with hard tiles and reflective surfaces. Materials like rattan and sisal are often linked to a summer coastal look but when styled alongside wintery finishes like thick cable knit, fur or leather, they create a fantastically on-trend textural interplay that adds depth to your space.
